Thanks so much for the advice!!! My fiance - who is the one convincing me to do this - is a huge redditor and hit r/keto up immediately. That FAQ is so amazingly detailed. Cold turkey on carbs - good to know. I'm so glad there are people out there who know what they're doing who can help me. Thanks, again!

My pleasure! Another tip: myfitnesspal is a huge help. Carbs will sneak up on you! http://www.myfitnesspal.com/food/diary/snachodog if you want to see how I ate. Don’t be afraid of butter or eggs or heavy cream. Recommended reading: Good Calories, Bad Calories and Why We Get Fat

Things that we’ve been taught as being really bad are exactly what you want on keto. 

Also, after a couple weeks, you’ll suddenly feel AMAZING. When it wears off after a couple of days, take a meal off and carb load and then start off (then again, you don’t have to chase the “keto high”, lol).

Sorry for the information vomit, but I’m a huge fan of the ketogenic diet!

Seriously, guys. I’m loving keto


Keto lunch. Almost nailed it.
Too much cream cheese put me over carbs for lunch. Didn’t end up eating the broccoli, got too full and too tired.

2012 and January Health and Goals

2012 Goals

  • Earn additional $6000 outside of my salary
    The wife and I are doing our best to get out of debt (Following Dave Ramsey’s baby-steps). An extra $6000 would go a long way to help with that.
  • Earn $1000 from a niche site
    Same principle from above, but I’d really like to get some “passive” income in the form of niche sites. 
  • Create a newsletter with 1000 readers
    This kind of ties in to the first two goals, but its a little bit of vanity, too. I’d really like to improve my copy technique, and a newsletter list is a good way to do that. 
  • Lose 100 pounds
    Obvious. As of January 1st I tipped the scale at 380 lbs. 100 lbs. is a big goal, but I’ve got high hopes for the keto diet I’ve put myself on.  
  • Read 12 books
    I hope one book a month is reasonable. I need to put more book lurnin’ into to my life.
  • Go fishing 10 times this summer
    I love fishing in Montana. I need to make point of using my fishing license this year and get out into rivers and streams.

January 2012 Goals

  • Sell $100 on eBay
    As a means of supplementing my household income, I’m going to sell $100 worth of stuff on ebay. 
  • Finish reading Entreleadership
    I picked up Dave Ramsey's newest book when it came up, and I haven't made an effort to finish it. I'm looking forward to finishing it up.
  • Finish reading Inheritance
    My wife got me into the Inheritance series. The author wrote the books in (is from?) Montana. I got this one on my ereader, and I’d like to be finished with the series. 
  • Read Quitter
    No, I’m not quitting my job. Jon Acuff’s book is about starting a business on the side, while you’re working a day job (the end goal of the book is to quit your job and run your own business, but I like my job).
  • Create 2 St. Joseph newsletters
    I’ve gotten involved in my Church community and I built them a website. I’d like to help them grow their parishioner list, and I think an e-newsletter would be really helpful.
  • Lose 10 lbs
    I’m hoping that on keto, I’ll get some decent results as I shed water weight/
  • Walk 30 minutes 12 times
    I watched the following video. The gist is that waling 30 minutes a day will dramatically improve your health. With the diet, I’m hoping that at the least, I’ll be healthier, if I don’t lose a few pounds too.
